Essential

Reopening Mental Health Facilities

Avatar: Community Member Community Member

What problem would you like to solve?

Mental Health/Homelessness

Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

Too many mentally ill are living on the streets and making our neighborhoods unsafe. Also, they are human beings and deserve to be treated humanely.

What idea do you have to address the problem?

Reopen closed long term hospitals and with professional oversight. the inmates could take responsibility for maintaining the premises to give them a sense of purpose and dignity. They are fine (often) when meds are taken appropriately, which is why they need to be supervised.

Who would that help?

The mentally ill and the community and provide health provider jobs.

What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?

Citywide
