Youth Worker Justice Initiative

Avatar: Community Member Community Member

What problem would you like to solve?

Lack of youth education on worker's right

Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

In the 5 boroughs youth begin working at 14 years old through SYEP and other means. At no point is education about their rights and proper treatment at a work placed discussed. There is also no information provided on resources to turn to.

What idea do you have to address the problem?

Creating a program to educate youth on their rights as workers in part with SYEP programming and a traveling programming. They would learn about proper workplace treatment and resources to access if their rights are violated

Who would that help?

Youth/low-income youth 22-14 year olds

What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?

Brooklyn
