Essential

Education Relief Fund

What problem would you like to solve?

financial issues for college students related to housing, child care and transportation

Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

Many college students have trouble paying for living expenses while enrolled in school. If there is too much financial pressure, they quit their college program in order to afford immediate expenses for their families. Having access to additional funds to help pay for living expenses would prevent students from accumulating debt.

What idea do you have to address the problem?

This program would provide small "microgrants" or vouchers to college students to be used to pay for non-tuition expenses while enrolled in college, including housing, childcare, groceries and travel expenses (metrocards).

Who would that help?

It would be available to all CUNY students, maybe students at other colleges as well. Would help children and adults in college

What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?
