Essential

More Green Space for Bed-Stuy Residents

Avatar: Official proposal Official proposal

What problem would you like to solve?

The lack of available green space for residents to relax in.

Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

Bed-Stuy has some of the worst health outcomes in the New York Metropolitan area, particularly for asthma. Moreover, it shoulders a disproportionate burden of pollution for the amount of traffic in the area. More green-space and trees will help to filter the air, decreasing pollution and asthma rates. Furthermore, increased and available green space will help to improve mental health outcomes.

What idea do you have to address the problem?

Increase funding to the existing programs for increasing green space and trees in Bed-Stuy - NYC Green Thumb, NYC Horticultural Society, and Green City Forest.

Who would that help?

The residents of Bed-Stuy.

What neighborhood would benefit from your idea?

Bedford-Stuyvesant
