Essential

Peace Circle Training

Avatar: Official proposal Official proposal

What problem would you like to solve?

Bringing non-carceral approaches to addressing violence.

Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

Since fall 2020 there has been a spike in gun violence in our community. A group of community members have stepped up to create non-carceral ways of addressing this problem as well as the problem of violence in general.

What idea do you have to address the problem?

We believe peace circles training, based on indigenous practices, is a powerful non-carceral, nonpunitive way to address the problem. Some members of our community have had the training and we want to spread it as far and as wide as we can, so it becomes a normalized practice in our community.

Who would that help?

Everyone

What neighborhood would benefit from your idea?

Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood surrounding the Jackie Robinson Housing Complex and Brevoort Housing Project
