Essential

New York Loves Mothers

Avatar: Official proposal Official proposal

What problem would you like to solve?

New mothers need support once they leave the hospital with their newborns. Mothers tend to suffer medical complications, post-partum depression, abuse, exhaustion; not to mention this leaves newborns in danger and unhealthy.

Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

If we want to have a strong city, we need strong families; so it is important to support the backbone of those families.

What idea do you have to address the problem?

Every mother should have a home health aide/ nurse who visits them and their newborn for the 12 months after birth. The home health aide/ nurse can ensure the health of both baby and mother, ensure the home environment is safe for mother and child, help out with laundry and cooking. Also, they will help the mothers sign up for any programs that they might need, and ensure they get counseling for their mental wellness.

Who would that help?

Mothers and families.

What neighborhood would benefit from your idea?

All of NYC, but we can start in the Bronx.
