Avatar: Official proposal Official proposal

What problem would you like to solve?

Highschoolers are graduating without know the basics of how to take care of themselves. We need to bring back home economics to school.

Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

Having an educated youth with create a more productive society.

What idea do you have to address the problem?

We should focus courses in Junior and Senior years of highschool on adult skills e.g. budgeting, credit scores, resume creation, cooking, sewing, growing food, civics, contract reading/ writing, driving, taxes prep, basic law, professional dress/ grooming, interviewing, business proposal creation, researching, debating, critical thinking, basic home repair, trades, investing, teambuilding and management, how to read statistics, grooming/health, linguistics, socialization skills; to name a few. It would also be great if we had social workers in schools who can identify at risk youth, giving them therapy and informing them of services that would be available to them once they become adults.

Who would that help?

Low income kids in underserved communities.

What neighborhood would benefit from your idea?

All of NYC, but especially the Bronx.
