Essential

Bridging the Technology Gap for Seniors

Avatar: Official proposal Official proposal

What problem would you like to solve?

Seniors are increasingly being left out of the information age. This means that they are more likely to be unable to access resources and navigate government systems effectively because they do not use the internet and smart phones at the same rates as other sectors of society. Seniors need more access to technology classes in this community.

Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

Without finding ways to keep seniors "connected," we will further increase the digital divide and seniors will be further unable to take advantage of available programs and services. This means that they will not be able to access savings and assistance programs that meant for them.

What idea do you have to address the problem?

Weekly technology inclusion classes are needed along with discounted or free tech products to train seniors how to use specific devices.

Who would that help?

This would help seniors and their family members who often have to help them use technology at home.

What neighborhood would benefit from your idea?

East Flatbush
