Organization: Hands That Make A Difference

Project Name: Hands That Make A Difference presents “Save our Seeds”

Project ID: 81

Neighborhood/Communities that the project will serve: CB Manhattan 10 (Central Harlem)

Borough: Manhattan

Project Description:

“Save Our Seeds” is a youth based anti-violence/job training initiative that focuses on the creative genius of youth ages 16-24 that find it easy to engage in Hip-Hop. They can use their poetic skills to create public service announcements that encourage anti-violence, while learning job training skills. The importance of respecting people, places, and property will be a factor as well as our youth understanding the need for acquiring job training skills.

Our youth deserve the opportunity to be prepared to deal with conflict resolution, art of expression, and skills that make them self sufficient or employable. We have had to raise money since the inception, and it is a labor of love. We have gone into our own pockets and have lost out on locations but through perseverance and prayer we find a way to house our youth. We want local politicians and businesses to pay attention to our most prized possessions, which is our youth. They must be a priority if we expect to enhance the legacy of our culture and our City.

What Youth are saying about the organization: They are grateful to have a place they can be free to be themselves, without judgement. They always feel safe.
