Common questions about The CEC
participate.nyc.org replatform faq
A new website is coming soon!
The Civic Engagement Commission is excited to report that the participate.nyc.gov website has been rebuilt from the ground up! The new site will launch May 20, 2025. This upgrade will mean more options and capabilities for civic participation in the future. The new platform is hosted on a city server and during the transition content will be anonymized—that means your participatory history will no longer be available.
- Your ideas will be ported to the new site. However, they will be anonymized and the site will say they were submitted by a “Community Member.”
- Your participatory history, including comments, follows, and endorsements, will no longer appear.
- All new participation activities will continue to be saved to your account.
- We apologize for the inconvenience, but we hope the benefits of this transition will make up for it. When processes are added to the new website, you will be able to participate in those and your participation will be saved.
Can I get a record of my data?
Yes! You can download your data anytime before our May 20, 2025 launch day.
- First, log into your account.
- Then go to https://www.participate.nyc.gov/data_portability and follow the instructions to export your data. Make sure to download the recommended software so that you can open your data file!
- What will happen to my ideas and record of participation?
- Your ideas will be transferred to the new website as posted by "a Participant.” Your record of participation (endorsements and follows) will unfortunately not be transferred.
Why did we upgrade participate.nyc.gov?
- Better accessibility, privacy, and security. Meeting leading-edge standards for accessibility, privacy, and security is a top priority for the Civic Engagement Commission.
- More features now and in the future. We want to set a foundation for building out participatory processes and other features more easily in the future, as well as continuing to create new ways for New Yorkers to participate.
