Organization Name: Goodvibesinthepark

Project ID: 169

Project Name: Goodvibesinthepark

Neighborhood Communities that the Project will Serve:CB Manhattan 10 (Central Harlem)

Borough: Manhattan

Project Description: This is a program that fits the needs and necessity of now in a way that could shape the lives of the youth involved and the community going forward. Your votes can make it a reality!

"The turbulent climate we have faced as of late of racial reckoning juxtaposed with the pandemic has really impacted the mental health & wellness of young people of color in ways that we are not addressing.

The youth can, should and will play a pivotal role in tackling these issues, but for them to do so, they must be empowered and equipped with a multi-faceted skillset which includes advocating for social justice, planning, curating and implementing impactful programming for their peers (and the community).

Through the Goodvibesinthepark Young Curators program, youth will be engaged in multiple ways including but not limited to: developing a list of activities, vetting potential performers & speakers, meditation coaches, mental health & wellness sessions and other aspects of the program to make sure it fits the stated goal of creating a safe, joyful & affirmative social distanced gathering to celebrate Juneteenth ( a holiday marking the emancipation of enslaved black people in the United States)"

"Not only will youth receive a stipend for their role, they will be acquiring the type of skills and knowledge that helps them rise up to this historical moment in time and their lives. What does it take to develop a project that helps to address a community need? How can you make a difference while also having fun? How can you become the change you wish to see?

Answering all of these questions and more is what the Goodvibesinthepark Young Curators program will achieve."

"Learning how to develop, plan and implement a project or a program is an invaluable skill to have and very transferable across many aspects of life. It is even more rewarding when it addresses topics as pivotal as social justice and mental health & wellness of your peers and community at large.

Last summer Goodvibesinthepark started as a one-time gathering but became so impactful that the community demanded that it continue and so it did. The needs of young people will continue to be a priority at Goodvibesinthepark, but through the Young Curators program we can ascertain that the youth will have a direct role.....but for this to happen we need your selection."

What Youth are saying about the organization: We looooved it!

At a time when the world was in despair, good vibes in the park provided light, healing and reassurance through its park events that definitely made a huge difference during lockdown last year. Their social distanced and safe event allowed us to realign our physical human connections that had been cut off and replaced by virtual technology and media.
