Name of Your Organization:

Hands That Make A Difference external-link(External link)

Overview of the Project - Save Our Seeds is a youth based anti-violence/job training initiative that focuses on the creative genius of youth ages 16-24 that find it easy to engage in Hip-Hop. They can use their poetic skills to create public service announcements that encourage anti-violence, while learning job training skills.

Which of the following issues does your project address?

  1. The importance of respecting people, places, and property
  2. The need for acquiring job training skills
  3. The importance of networking
  4. The vital need for staying in school

Youth Engagement - Please explain how you will engage youth in the planning and implementation of the project.

We will engage youth at their level by networking on social media, in the community at their schools, clinics and places of recreation. A lot of youth are idle in the District 9 area of Harlem and we will utilize other youth to assist in recruiting the 10 youth we want to work with every 2 months so that we would have recruited youth to turn their lives around and prepare for their future.

Budget - Your total project budget must equal $20,000 to be placed on the ballot for a youth vote. Please provide a brief description of what the funds would be used for to successfully implement your project. You will also need to download, fill in, and attach a full budget

Our budget will be utilized to create stipend s(weekly) to help youth with transportation to job fairs.

Our budget would also be utilized to compensate a job trainer counselor that will commit to showing youth basis skills such as resume writing, etiquette during job interviews, as well as hygiene and job readiness.

Timeline- Please describe the timeline for the implementation and completion of the project. All work for this project must be completed by June 30, 2021, which is the end of the city’s fiscal year and the deadline for the funds to be spent.

March 1, 2021 - May 15, 2021

Project Activity Alignment - How does your project align with at least one of the following topics:

  1. Youth and student engagement

Our project aligns with youth and student engagement in several ways. As we already are providing afterschool and tutoring services to low and no income students. We have formulated a way to reach youth where they are. Our youth of Harlem and many of the urban areas are plagued with violence as an alternative means to solve the most smallest conflicts. We want to teach our youth had to deal with stress, teach job readiness and show our youth that are creative ways to use their natural inate abilities, their own self made projects will give them that courage to speak and present their voices. We help with self esteem, self respect and self determination.

What is your organization's area of focus?

Which of the following issues does your project address?

  1. Issue 3 - Youth Advocacy Promotion

Youth Engagement - Please explain how you will engage youth in the planning and implementation of the project.

We plan on meeting with you in the community by recruiting them in their schools, hospitals, recreation areas and where they are idle. We want to provide them choices to utilize their natural creative ways for expressing themselves as well give them the knowledge they will need to obtain employment. We want to prepare the youth by doing various mock interview sessions, show the youth the importance of hygiene, resume writing and conflict resolution. We will also prepare weekly surveys that will allow staff to discuss improvements that may be needed to address as well as engage youth on their opinions on how they feel progress is going.
