Bridging Time: Youth and Seniors Sharing (Island) Memories

Avatar: Brooklyn Level Up, Inc. Brooklyn Level Up, Inc.
Idea Submission for The People's Money:
An intergenerational storytelling program that brings seniors from the Caribbean, Latin & Central American, and African Cultures into public school classrooms to share and preserve their lived experiences of growing up on the islands (and other countries). Through recordings, guided conversations and partnership writing activities, students and seniors capture a few of their most meaningful memories. The stories would be captured in a special printed book that commemorates the program.
What is the problem your idea aims to address?
Supports senior well-being, strengthens intergenerational bonds, creates community impact, and preserves history (video/orally and documented in writing). This also helps youth develop their literary skills 2nd - 5th grade to start but could easily go up to 12th grade/college level).
