Describe the challenge you want to address:
Lack of art/cultural programs that give space to connect neighborhoods and its community members with local artists in multiple genres. Most creatives have to seek work or residencies in other boros. Locals do not know about the local talent whether emerging, mid-career and even established.
What is the solution to the challenge?
Create a regional residency program where creatives can have residencies in centers, storefronts, or alternative spaces to host social practice sessions with locals in the community. The artist(s) discipline can help shape the type of community engagement program, workshop, or installation reflecting the connectivity of the rich history and diversity of The Bronx.
To amplify the program's impact:
- Establish partnerships with local businesses, art organizations, and community groups (solution 4) to provide additional resources and support for the residency program.
- Offer workshops, classes, or lectures (solution 5) to educate community members about the artists' disciplines and the social practice sessions, fostering deeper engagement and understanding.
The program can run year-long, with each season featuring an artist from a different local neighborhood, creating and connecting with others in the community. A culminating event can be held at a central location, showcasing all the residences and allowing Bronxites to view and engage with the artworks and initiatives.
