Describe the challenge you want to address:
Studies conducted by CAIR NY have shown that 75% of Muslim women have experienced hate crime or bias incidents in New York City, The goal of the workshop would be to empower young Muslim teen girls on how to deal with Islamophobia as well as instill confidence and familiarize the girls with their rights.
Describe your idea and approach to address the challenge:
The series of workshops program would consist of workshops and trainings that would give young teen girls in Queens the opportunity to develop new life skills. They would learn from local successful mentors who will share their knowledge and experience and provide support and training. Topics would include, situational awareness, deescalation tactics, self defense training, emotional intelligence, girl empowerment as well as leadership training. The training would also include knowledge of rights as a woman, student as well as community member.
