Describe the challenge you want to address:
The Challenge of an ever changing city. The preservation of culture while pushing forward economically. The idea that the community isn't successful with its current model. The Idea of gentrification and how its affects those who have long lived in the community. As new people move in is there a welcoming committee to build and establish new relationships in the community. A gathering of people in the community to establish more greetings and understanding of who is part of the community.
Describe your idea and approach to address the challenge:
My idea is a preservation campaign and Festival that brings the community together to view art music culture film as well as panel discussions, Q&A, park clean up and mural project. The preservation campaign is a visual research project on a particular community neighborhood. I am from the bronx and each community has special characteristics and social environments all that tell a different story of how beautiful diverse The Bronx is. After compiling stories and building contacts and establishing relationships of Bronx Community leaders we then will hold a festival during the warm days in the streets of the specific Bronx community displaying the stories on a big screen. Hold intimate discussions about community building. The festival will be the grand build up of everything.
