Healing Trauma through Drama

What problem would you like to solve?

Rampant mental health concerns that are unaddressed and untreated, leading to drug and alcohol addiction as well as other issues in our community.

Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

Mental health is not addressed in our community and is often a stigma among Black and Latino residents. Unaddressed mental health concerns lead to addictions and other health problems as well as violent crimes.

What idea do you have to address the problem?

Drama workshops and performances that allow residents of all ages to explore their own mental health issues as well as social issues in the community through devising. This is something inherent to the art form and allows expression of emotions in a way that is not readily available to residents of our community.

Who would that help?

People of all ages in the South Bronx community, particularly the youth.

What neighborhood would benefit from your idea?

Mott Haven, Port Morris, Melrose
