What problem would you like to solve?

Teach residents of the Brooklyn Community the rich history of African American Music that spans from The Negro Spiritual, The Work Song, The Concert Spiritual, Hymns, Gospel, and Popular Music.

Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

As a community that thrives on celebrating the arts, this would be a way to teach youth and adults history of African American Music that is not widely taught in our school systems due to varied levels of Music Programming in the city schools.

What idea do you have to address the problem?

Sounds Of Color is an immersive concert that displays a wide variety of music that spans the African Diaspora in the Americas. This concert may be held in February during Black History Month, or in June during Black Music Month. This Concert would serve as a Community Celebration of Music, that will emphasize and teach these musical styles to the audience. Audience members will be able to interact with Musicians by Learning, and asking questions, even being a part of a sing along.

    Who would that help?

It would help youth and adults alike. It would serve as an Intergenerational event, involving Young People as young as 8y/o to the oldest 80+

What neighborhood would benefit from your idea?

    Bedford Stuyvesant
