Safer East Harlem

What problem would you like to solve?

The presence and increase of crime in our neighborhood.

Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

People need to feel safe and small businesses are struggling to stay open. Many times, crimes remain unsolved just for matter of not being able to find perpetrators or leads on them. it is important for our community to be able to determine people who are harming the community and allow them to face the consequences of their actions. In general, it would promote a greater sense of accountability for the safety of our community overall.

What idea do you have to address the problem?

We could create a grid of private, inexpensive high quality cameras accessible to Law Enforcement as needed. These are especially necessary on the exterior of small businesses.

Who would that help?

East Harlem: youth, small businesses, NYPD, and residents, workers and students of the community

What neighborhood would benefit from your idea?

East Harlem or Manhattan as a whole
