Voting is now closed for The People's Money

The Vote phase for The People's Money 2025 has ended and we are now counting ballots to find out which projects New Yorkers want to see in their borough. This year's winning projects will be announced in July!

The four phases of The People's Money:

Phase 1: Idea Generation

New Yorkers know their communities best. During the Idea Generation phase, residents take part in workshops across the city — or submit online — to share ideas for programs and projects that address local needs. These sessions allow participants to learn about how NYC’s budget works while engaging in open discussion and collaborative brainstorming.

Phase 2: Borough Assembly

In each borough, randomly selected and demographically diverse residents come together to form a Borough Assembly. Over six sessions, these committees review the ideas from the Idea Generation phase, work together to prioritize what matters most, and develop a final slate of projects for the public to vote on.

Phase 3: Citywide Voting

During Citywide Voting for The People's Money, every New Yorker age 11 and up, regardless of immigration status, can vote on which community projects should receive funding in their borough. The winning projects get a share of millions from the city budget to provide services and programming for residents in their neighborhoods.

Phase 4: Project Implementation

After voting, the work begins. Community-based organizations apply to lead the winning projects through a competitive process, and the CEC supports them as they bring the community’s ideas to life.
