Do you have specific Neighborhood(s) in mind?
Neighborhoods with the highest population in transitional housing, e.g., Central & East Harlem, Washington Heights, Inwood, Morningside Heights, Hamilton, LES, Chinatown, Financial District.
Which group(s) does your idea focus on? Select as many as apply.
Public Housing Residents
Unhoused People
Describe the challenge you want to address:
Folks with limited access to housing struggle with food insecurity. The little food they may be able to obtain can be unsanitary or unhealthy.
What is the solution to the challenge?
Food pantries, places of worship, community centers, soup kitchens, etc. hosting cooking classes where people can learn how to obtain groceries for free or cheaply, and prepare them into simple, healthy meals. The classes can be incentivized with free meals, with the overall goal of helping the less fortunate build confidence and independence in remedying their own food insecurity.
