Describe the challenge you want to address:
Many residents in the Jamaica area face significant barriers to accessing affordable legal services for housing issues, eviction prevention, and navigating government systems. This lack of access leaves individuals vulnerable to displacement, financial instability, and unresolved legal challenges. Expanding these services would address the unmet demand for holistic legal support and empower community members with resources to overcome systemic obstacles.
What is the solution to the challenge?
Queens Defenders provides holistic legal resources in Far Rockaway and seeks to expand these services into the larger Jamaica area. This funding would support free offerings such as housing court advice, eviction assistance, succession rights, affordable housing applications, HRA support, notary services, and more. Additionally, it would allow for the organization of more community workshops, including events focused on sealing criminal records and vacating warrants, empowering residents with the tools to navigate legal challenges and improve their quality of life.
