Describe the challenge you want to address:
Gun violence, gangs, robberies, mental illness, fear of dealing with law enforcement, domestic violence, low income, unemplooyment, children traumatized by gun and gang violence, families unable to afford funeral costs, absentee from school, youthful peer pressure
Describe your idea and approach to address the challenge:
The clergy council is the intermediary between the community and the NYPD. It consists of clergy + spiritual leaders in the 79th precinct. We desire funding to create a program to support victims of gun violence, by hosting prayer vigils, shooting responses, bereavement support, counseling, supplemental assistance with funerals. Assist youth in overcoming fear from experiencing peer and gang pressure. Offering youth mentorship and counseling programs while helping them broaden their life experiences.
