KHCC will offer its signature youth development, college and career readiness, leadership training and internship opportunities to high school aged Bronx youth.

KHCC will offer a full slate of college and career readiness and internship experiences at seven locations in Bronx Community Districts 7 and 8, including KHCC’s Community Center (center-based) and six school-based sites. The program will operate 200 days annually during the school year and summer, with hours between 3:00pm-9:00pm Monday-Friday.

KHCC has run college access programs since the early 90's, reaching hundreds of Bronx youth annually. Last year, we reached 541 youth, 117 of whom participated in paid internships. We provided 642 college readiness workshops; 1,421 individual career advisement sessions; and 23 day and overnight college field trips.

College access in particular is a critical need in the Bronx. Only 23% of adults in the borough have a bachelor's degree (the lowest of any borough and half the national average of 42%) and only 78% of high schoolers graduate on time. In previous years, the borough scores even lower on the college readiness index (47%) than the NYC average (60%).

I am thrilled to have the funding and resources to add additional college and career advisors to our Student Success Centers on the Walton and JFK Educational Campuses.
