In which borough should your idea take place?
    Brooklyn
Do you have a specific neighborhood(s) in mind?
    East Flatbush
Which audience(s) does your idea help? Select as many as apply.
    Youth
    Parents
    Low income individuals
    Black, Indigenous, and POC
    Public housing residents
Describe the challenge you want to address:
There is a national debate that inner city youth are failing at an alarming rate. Gang culture, violence, drugs and juvenile delinquency have proliferated the East Flatbush neighborhoods. Parents, caregivers and school officials are at their wits end in finding a solution to the problem. Statistics show that third graders who do not perform well on the state “Common Core” exam are most likely to be incarcerated. Many of the parents in the East Flatbush community are immigrants who work two or more job therefore we are creating a youth population of “latch key children” who have no guidance after school.
Describe your idea and approach to address the challenge:
The Vision of the Wilbert E. Burgie Cadet (WEBCC)\nCorps is to effectively engage in the national debate pertaining to our youth by providing a\ncompelling, positive alternative in the East Flatbush community to the proliferation of “Gang Culture”/ “Juvenile Delinquency” that is spreading from neighborhood to neighborhood.\n\nWe will mobilize local resources and establish partnerships with agencies, organizations, church leader and local leaders. We will cultivate the talents and gifts of our future young leaders and empower them to attain their best through self-discipline and education. The WEBCC mission is to help our young people escape the corruption that is so vehemently endeavoring to destroy their future.\n
