What problem would you like to solve?

Many schools throughout the city are closed during the summer or winter. They have facilities that the community can benefit from and use. There arent enough safe spaces for kids to otherwise participate in safe sport activities.

Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

Young people should have a safe outlet that they can use to make sure they get their physical activities in, and can utilize them safely. These spaces already exist.

What idea do you have to address the problem?

Have school gyms and recreational facilities open to the public during set hours during the summer and winter if they aren't already open for summer school or other programing. That way youth can use a safe space, the gyms, to learn more skills, and to have a safe space. We have SNL and that only runs on saturdays in the evening, it would be great to have them more than just saturdays in the summer.

    Who would that help?

    Youth

What neighborhood would benefit from your idea?

    Manhattan/Dyckman/Inwood
