The Need to Develop Veteran Support Service Centers in the Bronx

Avatar: Amjad Mujaahid Amjad Mujaahid

What problem would you like to solve?

Veterans, their families and caregivers are not aware of the benefits and resources that they may be eligible for to improve their health and wellness. We as US citizens need to honor our contract with those men and women who fight to protect and defend our nation from all enemies foreign or domestic.

Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

Our country has been at war for over 20 years now and many veterans who are returning home to the Bronx do not know what services are available to them or where to go to get help. Those veterans without a support system suffer in silence from Mental health issues: PSTD, Suicide tendencies, homelessness unemployment, lack of medical services and health insurance. i.e. Bronx veterans have a high suicide rate here in the city which must be address with the proper services and resources.

What idea do you have to address the problem?

There is a need to develop 4 comprehensive Bronx Veteran Support Service Centers (VSSC) in four areas of the Bronx North, South, East and West to make service delivery more accessible to veterans, families and caregivers.

Who would that help?

Bronx Veterans, their families and caregivers

What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?

Bronx Borough wide and the model can be duplicated in other boroughs of NYC
