Legal Services in Brazilian Portuguese

What problem would you like to solve?

Lack of legal resources and legal services support for Brazilian immigrant women facing domestic violence, immigration emergencies, evictions, etc

Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

Between 300-500,000 Brazilian immigrants live/ work in NYC without access to information on rights (women's rights, workers' rights, immigrants' rights, tenants' rights). These folks are defrauded by notarios and paralegals, are victims of partner abuse and wage theft, and suffer landlord harassment. They do not know they have rights because information is rarely translated into Brazilian Portuguese.

What idea do you have to address the problem?

Monthly pro bono legal clinics in Brazilian Portuguese to support Brazilian immigrant women seeking information regarding their rights.

Who would that help?

Brazilian immigrant women

What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?

Queens
