Resource for low income families struglling with the effects of mental illness

Avatar: Community Member Community Member

What problem would you like to solve?

accessibility to resources that will help low income families out with family members who suffer from a mental illness and also those who are neurodivergent.

Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

1 in 5 new yorkers suffers from some sort of mental health issue. when left untreated it can result in the person neglecting themselves and have a domino effect on other problems. It's relevant because when it comes to family members who are their primary caretakers, the state of their loved one can have a detrimental impact.

What idea do you have to address the problem?

Making a hotline that connects people of low income to resources and specialists that deal with all their issues and concerns. This would just be helpful to those who don't have the access and who their primary doctors don't specialize in the issue at hand.

Who would that help?

low income families

What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?

all borough but we can start in manhattan and then expand
