Everyone Deserves a Home (EDH)

What problem would you like to solve?

The lack of affordable housing in NYC

Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

There are more empty apartments in NYC than there are homeless individuals. Many people have lost their homes due to the pandemic, gentrification and the ever raising price of rent. A person working full time under minimum wage cannot rent a one bedroom apartment in this city. Many communities that have been around for over 70 years are being torn apart.

What idea do you have to address the problem?

More developments need to be created by agencies like HDC or HUD that could help making more fair-market units and also find a way for the city to put a rental cap for some units. The city has put in place many programs for homeless prevention for families but not enough for single individuals.

Who would that help?

That would help single mothers, families and single individuals who do not make enough to live here own their own.

What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?

Brooklyn
