Th youth are distracted by the appeal of destructive lifestyles.

Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

Without guidance or exposing youth to the many possibilities of being, some may now receive the attention they need and deserve. It's common for youth to get into trouble because of idle time. It's also a good practice to demonstrate to them that the world goes beyond their neighborhoods.

What idea do you have to address the problem?

In the past, BHICNY has pulled together resources to take youth on a range of activities including: fishing; camping; careening; cooking; Staten Island parks, pumpkin patches and farms, sports games, rallies and peaceful demonstrations, speaking engagements, and more. These activities demonstrate how to contribute and shape their community. It's a form of civic engagement that is accessible for all. With the participatory budgeting process, BHICNY will continue this programming with more strategic destinations and programs for youth.
