Essential

Public Safety monitors

Avatar: Official proposal Official proposal

What problem would you like to solve?

Seniors and older people are afraid to use public transportation, like buses and trains because of the rise in crime.

Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

People should not be afraid to travel outside

What idea do you have to address the problem?

We should pay youth to train them as security personnel who patrol public transit with police officers to help deter crime and promote safety in our communities. Just having presence can help deter crime. We do not need multiple officers in a station, just one officer and a small group of trainees who are learning how to do this type of work and who are interested in promoting safety in their community. Like a neighborhood watch or patrol.

Who would that help?

Seniors, women, anyone who is afraid of being outside because of public safety concerns.

What neighborhood would benefit from your idea?

Manhattan/dyckman/inwood
