Essential

Mental health services for Spanish speaking asylum seeker families and students

Avatar: Official proposal Official proposal

What problem would you like to solve?

Spanish speaking asylum seeking families have arrived in NYC from southern states based on deception and lies, this after their harrowing experiences walking through South & Central America to the US

Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

It is always better (and cheaper) to address mental health concerns as early as possible, especially when dealing with acute needs such as those of refugees who are being repeatedly traumatized.

What idea do you have to address the problem?

Fund stable and consistently available Spanish speaking mental health service providers and social workers for these families.

Who would that help?

The asylum seeker families directly & the community as a whole - which will be healthier and more prosperous for it.

What neighborhood would benefit from your idea?

Morningside Heights & Manhattan Valley
