Bringing Healthy Food to Every Block

What is your idea?
Launch a mobile healthy-food cart that brings affordable fresh fruits, vegetables, and nutritious groceries directly into South Bronx neighborhoods with limited convenient access to affordable produce, also known as food deserts. The mobile market would make scheduled weekly stops near NYCHA developments, senior centers, schools, and busy residential corridors in neighborhoods such as Hunts Point, Mott Haven, and Morrisania. Residents would receive discounted produce bundles, healthy cooking demonstrations, nutrition education, and simple bilingual recipes reflecting the cultural traditions of Bronx families. Partnerships with local farmers markets, or wholesalers, and community organizations would help keep the prices affordable.
What problem is your idea trying to solve?
Reduce barriers to nutritious eating, and encourage healthier food choices without requiring residents to travel outside their neighborhoods.
Which group(s) does your idea focus on?
Youth (under 24)
Older Adults (65 +)
Public Housing Residents
Justice Impacted People
People with Disabilities
Limited English Speakers
Immigrants / Migrants
Veterans
LGBTQIA+ People
Parents
Unhoused People
