In which borough should your idea take place?
Brooklyn
Do you have a specific neighborhood(s) in mind?
Which audience(s) does your idea help? Select as many as apply.
Youth
Black, Indigenous, and POC
Older adults
Describe the challenge you want to address:
We should increase the current program of tree-planting to make sure there are no shade deserts in our city. There are many blocks throughout the city - in particular in Brooklyn - that are devoid of all trees and greenery, making them incredibly hot areas that trap heat and expose citizens to the sun. More trees will cool the city, lower resident's cooling bills in the hot months, help clean the air, and combat climate change and pollution.
Describe your idea and approach to address the challenge:
Assess areas that have low numbers or no trees at all and plant them block-by-block.
Write the zipcode that best represents your New York City community:
N/A
