Do you have specific Neighborhood(s) in mind?
This should be for major MTA depos in Brooklyn / Manhattan / Queens and the surrounding business districts
Which group(s) does your idea focus on? Select as many as apply.
Commuters and shoppers
Describe the challenge you want to address:
Most people are opting to work from home and shop online because they do not feel safe commuting on the subway or walking into stores without encountering panhandlers or those suffering from mental illness.
What is the solution to the challenge?
Hire 10 Auxiliary police, put them through a safety volunteer training and accountability program. Then pair them with police officers to patrol local business districts and train stations throughout the 5 boroughs. Auxiliary police will have different uniforms and their purpose will serve as a watchful eye providing support and warmly greeting people who exit a train or train station. They will also be assigned to stand outside of stores, apartments, and eateries. They would call police attention to panhandlers, loiters, etc.
