Hcfsa debit card
The HCFSA (Flexible Spending Program) for co-pay of health needs and benefits or the program for childcare- where pre-taxed dollars are taken out of your paycheck and then you can submit receipts to pay for those expenses.
Why doesn't NYC use a debit card that can be used directly at the pharmacy, or doctors offices? This is not a new concept in corporate America!

Yes! The NYC Employee Flexible Spending Plan (Health and Dependent Care) desperately needs to be revamped and modernized. In some cases, they force you to submit mundane expenses to your insurance plan, just to see the claim denied before they will reimburse it. This is an oppressive requirement and completely unnecessary. There are too many restrictions. If I put my money in a flexible spending account, I should be able to use it on ANY eligible purchases and should not have to jump through a million hoops to do so. I am convinced they make it difficult so that they city can pocket the leftover funds that hard working employees are too exhausted to argue about. This leads to my final comment on this subject - Unused funds should roll over to the next year. No more losing money that is not used! This is our money, that we worked for. It is supposed to ease the burden of health care and child care. It is horrific that the city is treating this as a revenue stream.
