Allow NYC Teachers to Select Curricula
I am a NYC Public School Teacher with almost 20 years experience. We, the teachers, know what is required and necessary for our students. As a result, we should be the first people consulted to select curricula, not detached school administrators. They keep selecting curricula that is not developmentally appropriate. Allow those of us who actually KNOW the children of NYC to have the most power to select curricula. Thank you for considering my idea.

I agree! I work in Social Services, and it's the same with policies handed to frontline workers. The VIPs at the top are far removed from the reality of the populations dependent on social services. The policies in place actual enable some people to stay in their situation. I call it keeping folks in the poor box. I wanted to be a teacher, but digressed after learning that I would have no input in the curricula. I moved to social services, but soon learned there's no difference. Those at the top set and maintain the status quo.
Regardless of who selects the curricula, I would like there to be transparency so that parents and taxpayers know what is actually being taught in the schools. Teachers that veer off their lesson plans to bring in their own agendas should be held accountable.
