Airbnb out of New York City
There are currently 38,277 Airbnbs in the five boroughs, ranging from entire units (53% of listings) to individual rooms (45% of listings). Many owners of these properties listed own dozens of them, and their prevalence exacerbates neighborhood gentrification. Hosts in NYC frequently break laws they are subject to, and are far less regulated than hotels. By allowing Airbnb to continue, NYC is opening the door to yet another form of dangerous housing inaccessibility while residents suffer.
