City Staff Ideas Challenge

Incentivize City Employees to Get Out of Cars
Bike/walk to work should be incentivized, similar to transit benefits.
Discourage use of agency cars. City employees should be reimbursed easily for taking public transit to meetings. Provide employees with free Citibike memberships, maybe subway/bus passes.
Getting employees out of cars will help them connect to the communities they serve. Reducing the number of cars on NYC streets will make the city healthier for all and allow first responders faster response times.

That said - it needs to be more affordable for city employees to live near their work spaces and offices so that walking and biking can become the reality.
Reducing the number of cars in NYC needs to be a priority.
The initiative should also focus on ways to get all New Yorkers to use alternative modes of transportation.
If not free memberships, at the very least, push to update the tax code to permit City employees to use Citibike and other green/open air transportation as a pre-tax commuter cost!

Telework would also allow some New York City employees to reduce their carbon footprint by eliminating the need to drive to work.
Not to mention less traffic! Remember how empty the streets were when the pandemic started.
