Parking permits and residential loading zones
Cars pose safety hazards (e.g., emissions, traffic accidents) and reduce quality of life with excessive noise. Traffic caused by too many cars on the road makes it harder for first responders to reach the site of an emergency.
The City should: 1) require residential parking permits to discourage car ownership and generate revenue to build safer streets with expanded pedestrian and bike access and 2) expand residential loading zones to reduce congestion created by double parking.

I support this idea. I would go a step further and propose that there should be no free parking in NYC. The cost of operating a vehicle and parking it in NYC is too great (e.g. potential to kill or seriously injure, pollution, space requirements) to give away for free. Private car ownership does not make NYC resilient economically, physically, or socially. And ideally, revenue would be directed toward expanding NYC’s transit offerings as well as improving road designs for bike/ped safety.
