Remove residency requirement for NYPD officers
Uniformed members of the NYPD are restricted to living in the five boroughs or a small handful of nearby NYS counties. I suggest the city remove this requirement, including letting officers live in New Jersey. This will:
1) Improve cost-of-living, quality-of-life, & morale for uniformed members of the NYPD;
2) Improve recruitment;
3) Be fairer & less intrusive for officers;
4) Reduce administrative costs to the NYPD by tracking compliance.

I would completely be in favor of removing the residency requirement for ALL city employees. No employer should have the ability to restrict where their workers live.
Yeesh, well there's a red flag: you see the City as a mere employer and not the conduit of public service? No _private_ employer should have the ability to restrict where their workers live, just as no private employer should have the ability to tax them or imprison them for violation of laws it created. My friend, do you simply just fundamentally disagree with the nature and function of a government? Work in the private sector and all of your issues will be resolved.
