First responders , especially New York City EMT’s are having a really tough time keeping up with inflation. Recently they were mandated to work 5 days a week,8 hour tours(as of February 2023 ) instead of the 12 hour tours that were in place prior to that date. This mandate is almost doubling the amount of tolls that they are paying to get to work (adding 2 more travel days a week) EMT’s are paid at a very low scale compared to other city first responders and the small raise they received doesn’t even cover the additional tolls they are paying. When you’re life is on the line you can depend on FDNY EMT’s. They’re on the job. 24/7 with life saving equipment in their personal vehicle’s whenever they’re needed. Green vehicles get a discount? DOESN’T MAKE SENSE!
