Hello. Allowing for a 12 hour tour with less appearances a week for nypd personnel would cut down on overtime and allow the city to have a bigger budget. It also would allow more officers to be on patrol at one time. This would give officers less stress, and allow them to focus on fighting crime while actually at work.

I have previously work 12 hour tours. They are highly rewarding and create less mistakes from items missed during turn over. Plus the 5 week rotating schedule used is excellent for employee moral and enjoyment of personal life. I wonder how the union feels. At minimum a pilot test should be done at a precinct for 6 months to see how officers feel and if brass experiences benefits.

I've done shifts when I had to be on the road for a whole day. Compared to other methods, they are very profitable and reduce the number of errors made due to forgotten redactle things throughout the turnover process. In addition, the five-week rotating schedule is great for staff satisfaction and relaxation.
