Help City workers afford NYC
Residency requirements have city workers paying a prohibitive percentage of their income for living expenses. There should be a stipend for those who make below an identified salary threshold, and/or incentives for landlords to lease to City workers.

Great idea. By creating incentives we can ensure that we retain the best and the brightest in our City.
For some city employees their rent is higher than their paychecks. Either give raises or offer city employees to be allowed to live in other adjoining states. The rent in New York is just too high for A LOT OF INDIVIDUALS. Especially city workers. A lot of people live better than most city workers. It is not easy to live in this state. So housing, whether it be affordable, more affordable, a development just for city workers where they are guaranteed to get an apartment at a rent rate they can afford would be awesome. All wishes. But wishes do come true. Thanks for listening to the people.
Let us reside anywhere we want. Including NJ. As a civilian worker I don't get free MTA/LIRR rides like uniform members do. Why am I forced to live in NY? My salary is not enough to live NY. I should be allowed to reside anywhere I choose.
As a city worker, I believe the percentage of affordable housing lottery apartments should be raised from 5% to 10% when considering city worker applicants. Or give landlords a tax break if they offer lowered rent to city workers. Something has to give!
Residency requirements come from a good place, we can serve and understand the city better if we live in the communities we serve. That said - most people can't afford to live in NYC with a city salary.
