Youth Pathway to Career Opportunities
We should give students a pathway to funnel into city jobs. If they express interest in working for the city while in high school, we should have trade programs/classes available to help them start learning and intern in city jobs and then when they graduate they can move into entry level positions. This could encompass a huge range from Government to the MTA and provide a steady workforce that looks like our city. This is an investment not only in our youth, but also our city.

This is an excellent idea. Take for example the nursing shortage. As an RN myself, I believe it will be beneficial for high school students to start getting training, they can gain certification as a PCT/PCA/CNA by age 16, be mandated to do 1 Shift per week to maintain their certification then while continuing to study towards their RN. This plan will address staffing shortages in city hospitals and ensure that those coming out of school are acclimated to the healthcare industry. Basically this will be expanding on Clara Barton High School already established program. This can be done for all work specialties. In order for this to work, there needs to be contracts signed by both student and parent. Remove the academic grades as criteria for entering to avoid any racial barriers. Criteria for entering should be based on interest. However, the continuation of the program will be based on grades associated with the trade and attendance.

I was trying to link the suggested ideas, My apologies. However this idea will work nicely with the "More Career and Technical Education in NYC schools idea suggested."
