Partner with hotels to create more SRO's that staff a SW, and physician to monitor and assist with the mentally ill who reside in the residence. Utilize more mobile crisis units to intervene as needed

In addition, utilize DSS/HRA caseworkers who have caseloads residing in the various shelters to provide input regarding the state of the various SROs and Shelters. These workers are often doing visits and are aware of issues that perpetuate the challenges that clients experience within the shelters. These workers should routinely be given the opportunity to voice issue with placements, and these issues should be addressed in order to avoid programs that don't serve clients needs.
Work to modify building requirements to allow SROs and smaller, less expensive apartments. While not a solution to all problems, increasing the amount of actually-affordable permanent housing could be a good stepping stone for homeless New Yorkers.
A Coordinated Approach
To end homelessness, a community-wide coordinated approach to delivering services, housing, and programs is needed.
