City Staff Ideas Challenge
#nycspeaks2022 Share your ideas for bold actions the Mayor should take
Significantly reduce official placards across all City agencies, zero tolerance for fraudulent placards, & crackdown on obscured license plates
To address air quality, improve traffic & promote the rule of law, the City should (1) completely overhaul which City workers can have official parking placards on their private vehicles, (2) create a new unit &/or adequately fund existing units across city gov to identify, prosecute &/or penalize those using fake placards, & (3) fine those with obscured plates, with higher penalties for violations of 2 and 3 by public employees as they should be modeling lawful behavior.

Totally agree. City workers, particularly NYPD, should be held to higher standards. Personal vehicles with 'homemade permits' should be fined just like the rest of us.

100%. The placards and the "theft vests" and looking the other way and the whole culture of "it's just for a minute" is so selfish and dangerous. Parking rules, just like driving, need to be enforced equally across all vehicles and at all times, otherwise they don't work at any time. If people using wheelchairs or with children in strollers or even the delivery workers with handtrucks can't access the curb cuts or see beyond a parked car if there's oncoming traffic, it doesn't matter if it's a civilian vehicle or a City worker with a placard, it's illegally parked and the parker should be penalized. There's justifiable uses of placards - which should only exist with great discretion, such as parking in a metered spot and not getting a circular ticket that wastes the City's time, but not for creating spots out of thin air. But those who _cough, NYPD, cough_ intentionally obscure their plates or use any kind unofficial placard should have their cars impounded and be arrested for fraud.

Definitely a large scale corruption issue - - you can "bribe" LEO Associations for $500 annually to get a "Police Surgeon" fake placard to park anywhere while you would be 99 percent immune from tickets/towing. Or create your own fake with misspellings like ERASURRES, EXPIERS, etc and even (sic) February 31 "expiration" date and none of the TEAs would take a closer look. NYCT and construction vests are another issue as well as hotel/residence employees and security guards using handwritten notes to park for free all day. All agencies involved must make the concerted effort to arrest and prosecute these suspected felons using counterfeits as well as summonses across the board as it drains the city of needed revenue, goes against climate change. The corruption is so bad, it's even on Showtime's Billions (S4, EP1, Chucky Rhodes' Greatest Comeback) where the disgraced ex-US Attorney goes around asking people if they want buy his "park anywhere" fake placard.
You should see the placard abuse on Adams street by the courthouses on any given day. There are easily hundreds of cars illegally parked, most of the ones I saw today were the District Attorney's office.
Thank you very much for sharing such a useful article. Will definitely saved and revisit your site ( percetakan jakarta timur & percetakan rawamangun )
