Curbside Composting as Available as Trash & Recycling Collection
We should expand compost collection to the scale the city collects trash and recycling, which would be appropriate considering
-
34% of waste is compostable -
43% is recyclable - only 23% is truly trash
Our waste collection schedules and availability should reflect these percentages. With amended collection service and educational support from DSNY, DEP, DOE, and DOHMH this is not only feasible but overdue

Agreed. This should definitely happen given that counteracting climate change should be one of our top priorities for NYC... and the world.
Half of the garbage I generate is compostable. It would be great to have the City take care of this.
To make this viable for all New Yorkers, we need to create proper structures that allow for apartment dwellers to keep the scrap collection bins secured in outdoor areas. I couldn't participate in the current initiative because there was no safe location for Sanitation to securely drop the bin.
Yes, please!
Totally agree. The City was expanding curbside composting at one point, but then they scaled it back. Why? At the very least, we should have composting bins at the office.
So important and we don't have time to waste to get to out Zero Waste goal
Thank you
Agreed. This should happen for sure, since stopping climate change should be one of our top priorities in NYC... and the whole world.
