Need:
Manhattan Business Academy is a Title 1 school and has 86 percent of our students qualify for Free and Reduced lunch. We are servicing approximately 430 students which are 90 percent Latino and African American. Many of our students live in City Council District 3. This funding would help provide our school with the adequate resources and tools to help bridge the wealth gap and ensure our students are prepared for life after high school by providing them with business acumen and experience. Our school has a 4 year business sequence which covers Computer Applications, Entrepreneurship, Financial Literacy and Virtual Enterprise. The Virtual Enterprise program is an internationally recognized business program that teaches students how to operate a simulated company with students worldwide. The program allows students to sell and market products in a simulated global marketplace while learning how to develop business plans, financial statements, sales pitches, websites and marketing plans. Students go through the entire journey of creating a startup company using design thinking to create their business idea, creating resumes and cover letters, interviewing for positions, completing a startup budget, and managing day-to-day business operations. Students need adequate computers, software, space and equipment. This equipment and upgrades will assist our school with remaining competitive with other schools in the district and around the country.
